UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy visiting Bosnia

Lammy is scheduled to meet with Konaković at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by a joint dinner later in the day. The visit will also include a meeting with members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The visit comes amid heightened political tensions in the country, with Lammy having previously emphasised the United Kingdom’s firm support for the independence and integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has underlined the importance of respecting the decisions of Bosnia’s independent judiciary and has openly condemned actions by the leadership of the Republika Srpska entity that he says threaten the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional order of the country.

The United Kingdom is one of the official witnesses of the Dayton Peace Agreement, and Lammy has repeatedly stated that the UK will not allow nearly three decades of peacebuilding and stability in Bosnia and the wider region to be undermined.

In April, Lammy visited Serbia, where he met with President Aleksandar Vucic. During that visit, the Serbian President rejected Lammy’s views on the political crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly the notion that RS President Milorad Dodik’s actions were unconstitutional.

“As far as Bosnia and Herzegovina is concerned, we do not share the same view on who is responsible for the situation, and I cannot agree with the assessment that Dodik's unconstitutional conduct is to blame,” Vucic said at the time.

Tuesday’s visit marks the first by a UK Foreign Secretary to Bosnia and Herzegovina since May 2022, adding significance to Lammy’s arrival amid ongoing political uncertainty.
