The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a draft resolution on Bosnia and Herzegovina, with 15 votes in favor, at its session this evening. The resolution, proposed by France, extends the mandate of EUFOR in BiH for an additional 12 months.

In his address, the representative of France reminded attendees that the EU took on a fundamental role in BiH's stability with EUFOR in 2004.

“It operates on behalf of the international community in accordance with the Dayton Agreement and UN Security Council resolutions. France is fully committed, which is why I say we play a key role in ensuring security and combating destabilization amid current provocations. Therefore, I welcome the unanimous adoption of Resolution 2757, which renews and extends EUFOR’s mandate for an additional 12 months. France also supports the mandate of the high representative,” he emphasized.

“We are concerned about the RS authorities’ initiatives” He also expressed solidarity with BiH following recent floods and welcomed the results of the local elections, which the OSCE/ODIHR mission described as successful despite certain shortcomings.

“France supports the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of BiH, but we are concerned about initiatives by the RS authorities that threaten the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of BiH, which are fundamental to the Dayton Agreement. France is convinced that BiH’s future lies in the EU,” he stated, noting that the March 2024 decision to open negotiations was a clear signal that BiH has a unique opportunity to move closer to the EU.

France urges BiH authorities to work together with the EU and to cooperate with the chief negotiator in the accession process.
