UN Security Council concerned with situation in Bosnia, calls for dialogue

The United Nations Security Council expressed deep concern about the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, calling on all actors to engage in dialogue and respect the Dayton Peace Agreement.

The initiative for the statement was launched by Slovenia, with the Council members unanimously emphasising the importance of preserving the constitutional order and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"The Security Council members reaffirmed their full support for the implementation of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its annexes," the statement said.

The UN called on both Bosnia's entities, all constituent peoples and Others, as well as political actors, to adhere to the provisions of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution of BiH, and to engage in a sincere and constructive dialogue to preserve the political unity and stability of the state.

Special emphasis was put on the need to avoid a conflict approach and promote solutions through consensus.

At the same time, the Security Council called for refraining from provocative and divisive rhetoric, and for preserving peace and security.

The Security Council also expressed full support for the EUFOR Althea mission, which acts in accordance with its mandate and contributes to stability in the country.

In conclusion, the Council members emphasised their unequivocal commitment to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in full accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement.
