Unemployment in Bosnia sees marginal decline as jobless rate drops to 11.2%

Official data from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s employment services reveals that 315,478 people were registered as unemployed as of 31 of October, 2025. This represents a slight decrease of 681 individuals, or 0.22%, compared to the previous month. Women continue to be disproportionately affected, accounting for 59.66% of the total, with 188,199 currently out of work.

The workforce profile shows that skilled workers make up the largest segment of the unemployed at 31.33%, closely followed by unskilled workers at 28.89% and those with secondary education at 28.82%. Among unemployed women, the majority hold secondary education qualifications (32.11%).

October saw 13,014 new registrations, while 13,740 people were removed from the unemployment registers, 8,144 of whom successfully secured jobs. During the same period, employers advertised 2,777 vacancies, though 8,993 individuals saw their employment terminated.

Social security figures indicate that 15,210 people, or 4.82% of those registered, received unemployment benefits in October. Meanwhile, 192,794 individuals, representing over 61% of the registered unemployed, utilised their right to health insurance through the services.

The Agency for Statistics of BiH reported that the total number of employed persons reached 853,172 in September 2025, a 0.9% rise from August. This figure includes 390,404 women.

According to the Labour Force Survey for the third quarter of 2025, the overall unemployment rate fell by 1.9 percentage points to 11.2%. The national employment rate stands at 44.5%, while youth unemployment (ages 15–24) remains high at 33.5%.
