She highlighted that by 2027, these facilities will generate 160% of the electricity needed for United Group's operations in Bulgaria, covering 65% of the Group's overall energy consumption. Boklag described this as a transformative step, not only for their business but also for promoting green energy in Bulgaria.
The solar plants will be built on repurposed industrial land to minimize environmental impact, while the wind farm will play a critical role in the country’s energy future.
Boklag reiterated the company's commitment to sustainability, setting a goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its entire value chain by 2040.
"This is not just about reducing costs or meeting energy needs—it’s about setting new standards for our industry and supporting the EU's climate goals while fostering economic growth," Boklag stated.
United Group's CEO noted that United Group has achieved significant milestones in Bulgaria's telecommunications sector, including the introduction of the country's first commercial 5G network, which is now the largest in Bulgaria. The network currently covers 91% of the population, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and connectivity in the region.
She also called for collaboration between governments, companies, and communities to create lasting solutions, underlining United Group’s transition from a telecommunications and media company to also be an energy company driving change and innovation.
