There is no compensation for what the genocide victims went through, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said during a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, noting that denial of the Srebrenica genocide is a special category of hatred. She also urged the politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina to end the policy of divisions.

Bachelet is the first UN Human Rights Commissioner to visit BiH since 1999. During her stay, she met with the government representatives and paid a visit to Srebrenica and Potocari Memorial Centre, where she talked to mothers who lost their closest family members in the war.

A wound can heal only when it is clean, Bachelet said on this occasion, expressing hope that the Prosecutor's Office will continue the search for the missing persons. She also emphasised the necessity of compensations for the families although, she noted, there is no compensation for what they experienced.

The UN's official called on the politicians to end the policy of divisions, to implement the existing laws and make Bosnia and Herzegovina a country of equal rights for all citizens, where education would improve and segregation in schools would end.
