Two US Air Force B-1B Lancer bomber aircrafts will fly low over Sarajevo and other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina on May 30 as a sign of the strong partnership between the United States and the Armed Forces of BiH. It will also serve as a sign of the “permanent dedication of the US to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and multi-ethnic nature of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
“We are celebrating the permanent bond between the US and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The flight demonstrates our commitment to building strong bilateral relations and is proof of our common values and goals. Through cooperation and understanding, we are building a path to a future of peace, security and prosperity in the region,” General James Hecker, a member of the US Air Force and commander of US air bases in Europe, air forces in Africa and NATO Allied Air Command, was quoted as saying.
The aircrafts will fly over Sarajevo, but will be seen all over the country. In addition, the aircrafts will participate in a joint military event near Tuzla, north of Sarajevo, which will include the engagement of the Joint Tactical Air Control of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the US Army Special Forces.
B-1B bomber aircrafts are stationed at the British RAF Fairford base as part of the last cycle of the Bomber Task Force operation. Missions within this operation allow the airmen to, as they pointed out, continuously carry out emergency operations around the world with the aim of maintaining global stability and security, enabling units to familiarise themselves with operations in various regions.
The B-1B aircraft is a long-range heavy bomber capable of carrying the largest conventional payload of guided and unguided missiles of any aircraft in aviation. The multirole B-1B is the backbone of America's long-range forces. It is capable of using large quantities of precision and imprecise weapons against any enemy, anywhere in the world, at any time, said the US Embassy.
