The United States will protect Bosnia and Herzegovina and make sure that its sovereignty, territorial integrity and multiethnic character are maintained, US Ambassador Michael Murphy said in a meeting with Bosniak member of Bosnia tripartite Presidency Denis Becirovic on Tuesday.
The ambassador also emphasised the importance of the functional, efficient and responsible state institutions, according to the statement issued by Becirovic's office.
The officials agreed that BiH and the US will be protecting the Dayton Peace Agreement, the deal that ended the Bosnian 1992-95 war and introduced the country's constitutional setup.
Ambassador Murhpy also stressed that no entity or any other administrative unit at lower level has the right to secede or unify with another state.
Becirovic thanked the ambassador for the support on Bosnia's Euro-Atlantic path. According to the statement, he also stressed Bosnia's commitment to full membership in the European Union and NATO.
