Any effort having as a goal or threat the dissolution of Bosnia and Herzegovina is unacceptable, while actions and threats associated with the country's dissolution have potential consequences, the US Embassy in Sarajevo said on Wednesday.
The statement comes as a comment on the conclusions that the entity parliament of Bosnia's Serb-majority region Republika Srpska passed on Tuesday evening, which among other things refer to the presence of the international community's High Representative, who oversees the peace implementation in the country.
“Any efforts having as a goal or threat the dissolution of BIH is unacceptable and incompatible with the Dayton Peace Accords and the Constitution of BiH, neither of which offers any entity the right to secede. The United States remains firm in our commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina as a democratic, multi-ethnic, sovereign and independent state with unquestionable territorial integrity and a future best guaranteed as part of the Euro-Atlantic community,” the embassy said.
“Actions or threats associated with the dissolution of BiH are anti-Dayton and have potential consequences,” it added.

The embassy called for a focus on “basic economic reforms, changes to render elections less discriminatory and more transparent and concrete steps to improve judicial integrity and combat endemic corruption holding this country back.”
“Retrograde discussions harkening back to a mid-1990s BiH will not deliver a promising future for any of BiH's citizens,” said the statement.
In a statement to N1, the embassy also said that glorification of war criminals is unacceptable.
“The verdicts in war crime cases point to individual responsibility and to not apply to one people as a whole. We are still disappointed with the rhetoric that calls into question these basic facts,” the embassy told N1.
