US envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, told BiH Presidency members on Thursday that there is no constitutional way for Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity to break away from the country and condemned the recent actions of BiH Presidency member, Milorad Dodik, which lead towards the escalation of the political crisis.
Escobar spoke to two of the three BiH Presidency members, Bosniak Sefik Dzaferovic and Bosnian Croat Zeljko Komsic, and expressed full support for Bosnia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Escobar is among the numerous foreign officials who have condemned the efforts to unilaterally transfer competencies from the state to the RS entity, which was announced by Dodik.
The RS National Assembly on Wednesday adopted a law to establish its own medicines agency that would operate separately from the state-level one, a move seen as the beginning of the realisation of Dodik’s announcements.
The international official overseeing the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, High Representative Christian Schmidt, said the move is “dangerous” and “unnecessary.”
EU Parliament members urged Schmidt to take “swift action” regarding the matter, even if it would involve using the Bonn Powers – which allow him to, among other things, fire officials and impose or annul laws.
