US LNG route: FBiH coalition commits to American pipeline proposal

Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. John Ginkel of the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina met on Thursday with the five leaders of the governing coalition in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) to push forward the critical Southern Interconnection project.

The high-level meeting included FBiH Prime Minister Nermin Niksic (SDP), BiH House of Peoples Deputy Chair Dragan Covic (HDZ BiH), BiH Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic (NiP), BiH House of Representatives Member Sabina Cudic (NS), and BiH House of Peoples Delegate Ilija Cvitanovic (HDZ 1990).
Unanimity on urgency and US involvement
The participants expressed unanimity on the necessity of constructing the Southern Interconnection pipeline as soon as possible. Chargé Ginkel specifically led a discussion focusing on the potential for an American company to develop, build, and manage the pipeline infrastructure.

The FBiH leaders reached an agreement in principle to this proposal and committed to holding further, more detailed discussions on the plan.
The US Embassy highlighted that the involvement of American private-sector investors can ensure the construction of the Southern Interconnection moves quickly. This investment is crucial as it will help secure affordable and reliable US Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), which is intended to significantly strengthen Bosnia and Herzegovina's energy security.
