US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chair welcomes von der Leyen's strong signal to Bosnian people

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Senate, Ben Cardin, welcomed the recent statement by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, that Bosnia and Herzegovina will join the Euro-Atlantic family, adding that he is committed to providing support in the reforms necessary to fulfil the country's EU membership requirements.

“I welcome von der Leyen’s strong signal to the Bosnian people that they belong in the Euro Atlantic family. I wholeheartedly agree, and am committed to supporting them in the reforms necessary to meet the EU's requirements for membership,” Cardin wrote commenting on von der Leyen’s video.

In her post, Ursula von der Leyen wrote:

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is showing that it can deliver on its membership criteria, and on its citizens' aspiration to be part of our family. This is the reason why today, we will decide to recommend to the Council to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina."
