US Senator Jeanne Shaheen bestowed Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo title

Sarajevo Mayor Samir Avdic will present US Senator Cynthia Jeanne Shaheen with the "Honorary Citizen of the City of Sarajevo" award for 2025 during a ceremony at the City Hall today, 7 October, starting at 4:30 pm.

According to a statement from the City of Sarajevo, the accolade is awarded to Senator Shaheen for her long-standing engagement and support for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as her efforts to strengthen relations between Bosnia and the United States.

The City of Sarajevo highlighted that throughout her political career, Shaheen has continuously supported the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of BiH and advocated for the preservation of its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity. Through this dedication, she has established herself as one of Bosnia's most prominent and steadfast allies within the American political arena.

Her support for Bosnia extends beyond political action in Washington, as Shaheen has visited the country on multiple occasions, consistently pointing out the significance of a stable and successful Bosnia to the United States.

The explanation for the award also emphasizes her contribution to promoting Sarajevo, particularly through her advocacy for the capital city as a symbol of resilience and a European future.

Following the ceremony at City Hall, Mayor Samir Avdic and Senator Cynthia Jeanne Shaheen will address the attendees and make statements to the press.
