Vares early mayoral elections: Initial turnout reported at 12.97%

Early elections for the Mayor of the Municipality of Vares are being held on Sunday following the death of the previous mayor, Zdravko Marosevic, in early December last year. The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH) confirmed that polling stations opened at 07 am and are scheduled to close at 7 pm.

According to the latest data from the CEC, the first turnout figures indicate that 1,039 citizens, or 12.97% of the electorate, cast their ballots by 11am. A total of 8,078 voters are eligible to participate in these elections, including 67 individuals registered to vote via mail from abroad. The election process is being conducted across 20 polling stations, supported by two mobile teams on the ground.
Five candidates are competing for the mayoral position:
- Malik Rizvanovic (SDA - Party of Democratic Action)
- Nurdin Begovic (SBiH - Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina)
- Stela Terzic (HDZ BiH - Croat Democratic Union of BiH)
- Igor Simic (HDS - Croat Democratic Union)
- Dario Dodik (Independent Candidate)
The CEC BiH is expected to announce the voter turnout recorded up to 3 pm at approximately 4 pm.
