The international community does not care about Bosniaks living in Bosnia’s Serb-majority Republika Srpska (RS) entity who endure discrimination daily, RS Vice President, Ramiz Salkic, told N1, commenting on the decision of Bosniak parties in the eastern town of Srebrenica to boycott the repeated local election.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) had annulled the results of the November 2020 local election in Srebrenica due to election fraud. It did not, however, annul the votes of Srebrenica citizens who voted from other countries.

A repeated election took place on Sunday.
However, the Bosniak coalition in the town, ‘My Address: Srebrenica’, boycotted the repeat election, arguing that the mail-in vote should have been repeated as well. Thy urged their supporters to not vote.
Salkic said that it is up to the Constitutional Court now to decide whether the local government in Srebrenica is legitimate.
“The decision was made by the citizens and the parties, they received support for their decision. If the administration functions without Bosniak representatives, Bosniaks will surely be denied many rights. I hope that they considered the decision and all its aspects, Salkic said.
He argued that the international community was quick to react to issues regarding the local government in the southern city of Mostar, but that it never reacts to whatever happens in the RS.
“In the case of Mostar, they reacted promptly, and for the last 10-15 years they have not reacted to anything that is happening in RS. The international community is not interested in Bosniaks in the RS entity. Bosniaks living there no longer have any expectations of the international community,” Salkic said.
“We remind them of their obligations, the OHR (Office of the High Representative) is obliged to react and protect the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the implementation of Annex VII. All forms of discrimination are prohibited, and we have discrimination here,” he stressed.
