The European Film Academy included Sarajevo's Bascarsija in the list of "Treasures of European Film Culture" in April of this year, and on this occasion, a plaque was unveiled on the plateau across from the Sarajevo City Hall, on Sunday, on which this important information for film art, the City of Sarajevo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina is stated. The solemn ceremony was attended by representatives of the authorities, film associations and the director of the European Film Academy, Matthijs Wouter Knol.
This year, Bosnia and Herzegovina proudly entered the map of European film treasures of the prestigious European Film Academy. Sarajevo's Bascarsija thus found itself among eight new locations that joined 41 European locations already recognized as film treasures.
This award is part of a wider initiative of the European Film Academy aimed at preserving and promoting European film heritage. Since its establishment in 2022, the new Department for European Film Heritage has established a network of national film academies, cinematheques and film archives dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the film classics of our continent.
The film treasure status awarded to Bascarsija will significantly contribute to its promotion, attract foreign film workers and tourists, and help preserve this precious cultural heritage.
The company Telemach supported the implementation of the extremely important project “EUROPEAN FILM TREASURE – BASCARSIJA” in cooperation with the Association of Film Workers of FBiH.
