The United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 75/274 on April 28, 2021, proclaiming March 10 as the International Day of Women Judges, with the aim of promoting the full and equal representation of women in the judiciary.

The establishment of this international day represents an important milestone in global efforts to ensure gender equality and improve the position of women in judicial systems and institutions, including leadership, managerial and other positions.

"When speaking about the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is important to note that out of a total of 1,377 judicial office holders, 852 are women, while 68 women hold leadership positions," the HJPC said in a statement.

According to the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) report for the Western Balkans for 2025, during 2024, Bosnia and Herzegovina had a higher share of women among judges, court presidents and chief prosecutors than the Western Balkans average.

The HJPC BiH stated that these figures show that the institution, as the central judicial authority, is making efforts to ensure equal representation of women in the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The HJPC BiH added that it will continue in the coming period, through its activities, to emphasize the importance of women's representation in the judiciary and, through its decisions, further contribute to strengthening the role of women in the judicial system of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
