The world premiere of My Late Summer, the latest film by Bosnian director Danis Tanovic, will open the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival.
The film will be screened simultaneously in Sarajevo at the National Theatre, at the Coca-Cola Open Air Cinema, at the Open Air Cinema Stari Grad and at the Open Air Cinema Centar “Safet Zajko”, and its premiere will also kick off the screenings of the Sarajevo Film Festival in Mostar – at the BH Telecom Open Air Cinema Mostar and in Tuzla – at the Bingo Open Air Cinema Tuzla on Friday, August 16.
My Late Summer is a comedy-drama about a young woman Maja who comes to a remote island to solve the issue of family inheritance. In a whirlwind of new emotions, through a series of unpredictable situations, she will finally face questions from her past. The search for inheritance becomes a search for her own identity, but also for forgiveness.
Danis Tanovic is a multi-award-winning director, screenwriter, and producer. His film No Man's Land (2001), for which he also wrote the screenplay, was awarded with an Oscar® and a Golden Globe for the best foreign language film. He is a two-time Silver Bear winner at the Berlin Film Festival for the films An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker (2013) and Death in Sarajevo (2016).
In 2014, Tanovic was honored with the Sarajevo Film Festival's Honorary Heart of Sarajevo, recognizing his outstanding contribution to film art and his support of the festival.
My Late Summer was produced by Propeler Film (Croatia), and co-produced by Tangaj Production (Romania), Obala Art Centar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Bas Celik (Serbia) and Tramal Films (Slovenia).
Starring Anja Matkovic, Uliks Fehmiu, Goran Navojec, Mario Knezovic, Marija Skaricic, Mirela Brekalo, Snjezana Sinovcic, Luka Juricic, Boris Ler, Ivana Roscic, Jadranka Matkovic and others.
The script is written by Anja Matkovic, Nikola Kupresanin, and Danis Tanovic. The film's technical team features Milos Jacimovic as the director of photography, Veronika Radman as the set designer, Redzinald Simek as the editor, Dubravka Skvrce as the costume designer, and Silvija Bradica as the make-up designer.
The film is produced by Lana Matic, Boris T. Matic, Jelena Mitrovic, Srdan Golubovic, Mirsad Purivatra, Jovan Marjanovic, Anamaria Antoci, Miha Cernec, and Jozko Rutar.
My Late Summer was created with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton, the Cinematography Foundation Sarajevo, the Romanian Film Centre, the Film Centre Serbia, the Slovenian Film Centre and the Creative Europe MEDIA Sub-programme for project development, and in co-production with BH Telecom.
The 30th Sarajevo Film Festival will take place from 16 to 23 August 2024.
