The miners of Bosnia’s "Raspotocje" and "Stara jama" coal pits have not been producing coal since Friday afternoon when they went on strike because they did not receive a salary for February and a hot meal for January. The company's account has been blocked for more than 10 days by the Zenica City Administration which is demanding payment of the outstanding debt for interest on the basis of the debt for the use of city land. At around 10 o'clock, the miners arrived in front of the City Administration to express their dissatisfaction. Pročitaj više

Members of the Trade Union Board of the Trade Union of the Zenica Brown Coal Mines Subsidiary Company, 15 of them, are on hunger strike.

On Monday, the director of Zenica Coal Mine Mensur Hukic and the Federation (FBiH) entity Mine Workers’ Union called on Zenica Mayor Fuad Kasumovic and asked him to unblock the company's account, so that around 900 workers could receive their February salaries and one allowance for a hot meal.

The mine paid off the principal of the debt in full a little more than two years ago, and the City of Zenica is demanding a little more than 3,000,000 Bosnian marks (some €1.5 mil) in default interest. The city administration has not yet commented on this issue.
