During a meeting with the Speaker of the Bundestag's Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael Roth, the Speaker of BiH’s House of Representatives Denis Zvizdic urged Germany to return to the EUFOR mission in BiH, his press office said Thursday.
While staying in Berlin, Zvizdic informed Roth of the current political situation in the country and the blockade of state institutions that has been taking place for the past several months.
Zvizdic thanked the German Government for its strong interest in the situation in the Western Balkans, especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He said that it was very important for the citizens of BiH that Germany stood by BiH and that it had clearly expressed its commitment to the European Union's enlargement policy.
Roth said that the destructive policy of blocking institutions, boycotts and the policy of secession are completely unacceptable to both the European Union and Germany and that such policies must be stopped.
They also discussed the situation in Ukraine and reflections on BiH. The two agreed that it was necessary to stop Russia's intentions to destabilize the Western Balkans.
Zvizdic informed Roth about the current increase in the number of soldiers within the EUFOR Mission in BiH and stressed that this is a positive decision and message, but that the number of soldiers is still insufficient and needs to be further increased and stationed in key areas in BiH, such as Brcko District.
The BiH Speaker called on Germany to return to the EUFOR mission because that would be a great incentive for preserving the territorial integrity and sovereignty of BiH.
