Those who knew Paul Lowe, whose photos from wartime Sarajevo spread the truth about what was happening in the besieged city, were devastated by the news of his untimely death. What caused his family additional pain was "incomplete information in the media", said Amra Abadzic Lowe, the wife of this award-winning photojournalist, who explained the circumstances of this tragedy to N1.

“Emir suffered from impaired mental health for a long period of time, which in periods caused episodes of complete detachment from reality and clouding of the mind. Emir was under the constant control of a team of experts and a medical team, and at all times he had the full support and love of his family”, she said following media reports that her husband was killed by their son, Emir.

“Despite all efforts, mental illnesses are unpredictable and one such episode took the life of my husband and for my son, who is not aware of what he has done, the fight is yet to come”, she added.

“The incomplete information in the media about this tragedy causes us endless pain”, Abadzic Lowe stressed.

Paul Lowe’s work has been featured in prominent publications such as Time, Newsweek, and The Observer. Among his many honours, Lowe received the Prize for Contribution to the Preservation of Memory at the 26th Modul Memorije in 2021, where he showcased his exhibition “Scars” at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
