The fire, which broke out three days ago in the Drina National Park in Srebrenica at the Sarena Bukva viewpoint, has spread deeper into the inaccessible terrain of the Crni Potok canyon, which flows into the Drina River and the hydro-reservoir of Lake Perucac.
Despite the efforts of the Srebrenica Firefighting Unit and workers from the Drina National Park, the fire continues to spread and threatens to move from the Crni Potok canyon, across the local Podravanje–Luka road, into the forests of Mount Susica. Firefighters are now stationed along this road to prevent the blaze from escaping the canyon and spreading across the road.
On Saturday, the Emergency Protection and Rescue Headquarters of the Municipality of Srebrenica met and noted, among other things, that “a large-scale wildfire in the Municipality of Srebrenica — Local Community Luka — is threatening the local population and that all capacities of the Territorial Firefighting and Rescue Unit and Drina National Park Srebrenica have been exhausted.” The headquarters proposed a decision to declare a state of emergency, which was signed by the municipal mayor, Milos Vucic.
