Ten people were killed, including teachers and students, when a shooter opened fire on students in a school in Graz on Tuesday. The motive for the attack is still unknown, but it is suspected that the perpetrator was a former student who had been bullied and that the killings were an act of revenge. After this brutal act, families were left without their loved ones, including the uncle of a teenage girl who stems from Cazin, BiH, who tragically died in the bloody attack in Graz.
"She was my child, not just my niece. A flower from paradise. I can’t believe she’s gone," began the emotional testimony of Ilhad Kendic, the uncle of 15-year-old Hana Akmadzic, who was among the murdered students.
In an interview with 24sata.hr, Ilhad said he received news of the tragedy while he was on the island of Vir. At first, he said, he didn’t know exactly what had happened, only that it was something terrible. When he heard that Hana was among the victims, his world collapsed.
"When I heard the news, I called her right away, but there was no answer. Only silence. My heart broke. I will never forget that moment," said Ilhad.
He lives with his family in Maribor, Slovenia, but as he explained, he was in daily contact with Hana. They exchanged messages at the very least. Hana lived in Graz with her family and older brother.
"She wasn’t just my sister’s child—she was like my own. She grew up with my children. She was withdrawn, quiet, unbelievably kind and considerate. She was the kind of child every parent could wish for. She respected elders, loved school, and was always by her mother’s side. She bothered no one, and everyone loved her. That’s why God took her. She was too pure for this world," said Ilhad, barely holding back tears.
