When Bosnian artists win an international award, it is exclusively thanks to their individual efforts as they have nearly no support from their government, singer Damir Imamovic, the winner of The Best of Europe award which is presented by the British music magazine Songlines, told N1 on Monday.
Imamovic said that the award is probably the biggest one he has received so far.
“I think that 100 percent of the successes of our artists abroad are a matter of individual work, effort and commitment. Not only us performers, but also our teams,” he said.
He said he often envies some colleagues from the region and Europe for the support they enjoy from their countries.
“Not in terms of writing projects or documentation, but that they have a status and certain benefits. If you are successful internationally, the country is trying to make it all easier,” he said.
Imamovic said that what he is satisfied with is the support from the audience.
He argued that domestic awards have nearly lost all meaning in Bosnia as they are often a result of an artist having certain connections.
“Awards in the international scene are also being given out through connections, but we in the Balkans don’t have such connections in the international scene,” he argued.
