Denis Becirovic is the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) candidate for the Bosniak member of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency. During the inter-party referendum, he won the trust of 26,000 members of this party, of just over 29,000 members who voted.
“I accept this candidacy resolutely and with pride. In the name of all the disenfranchised and those who bear Bosnia and Herzegovina in their hearts, we begin our joint march to victory. It will be a victory of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Becirovic said. “We respect others’ flags, but we will raise our own, the flag of Bosnia. Others may wave foreign flags, but we will wave our own flag,” Becirecic said, hinting at the fact that Serb and Croat politicians have the support of the neighbouring Serbia and Croatia.
He stressed that his candidacy is not a personal thing, but a joint effort, a joint project, and a fight for a more just Bosnia.
Becirovic’s inter-party referendum victory was pronounced at the SDP Convention which took place in Sarajevo, Sunday.
The referendum was conducted Thursday to Saturday in the territory of the entire Bosnia and more than 42,000 party members had the right to vote.
Bosnian Presidency consists of three members coming from the three constituent peoples in the country: the Bosniak people, the Serb people and the Croat people. The members are elected for a four-year term rotating every 8 months at the position of the Presidency Chairman.
