Bosnia has many friends ‘even in Trump’s administration,’ Bosnia and Herzegovina’s former ambassador to the UN Muhamed Sacirbey told N1, speaking of Bosnia’s position in the US and the world.
“Bosnia has positive friends in the US, even in the Trump administration. He (US president Donald Trump) is the problem, he can’t be taken seriously. Many who said they were our (Bosnian) friends and that they represent the countries that are friends of Bosnia, turned out not to be our friends once they returned to their home lands,” Sacirbey told N1.
Speaking about US president Trump, he said Trump has ways of causing conflicts through his words. He can present the situation as very bad and then he comes along and fixes everything.
“He’s a fireman who intentionally starts fires so he could play the hero,” Sacirbey added.
But when it comes to Bosnia he said “there could be a Dayton (Peace Agreement) 2, 3, or even 10, but the most important thing is that the stabilisation of the country comes from within and Bosnia’s Euro-Atlantic integration process,” he stressed.
The Dayton Peace Agreement ended the war in Bosnia and defined Bosnia as a country consisting of 2 entities, a district as well as of three constituent peoples. These are the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina entity, dominated by Bosniaks and Croats and the Republika Srpska entity, dominated by Serbs. There is also the District of Brcko which is not dominated by any of the three constituent peoples.
“In a situation where someone thinks that nationalism is the same as patriotism we can expect people talking about a division of Bosnia along its ethnic lines,” Sacirbey concluded. “I always said that Bosnia should look like the US, full of diversity. That’s part of our strength. This is once again seen as something Bosnia should pay the price for.”
