NDP Leader: Policy of constant conflict yielded no results

The People’s Democratic Movement (NDP) Leader hinted that they are ready to form the government at the Republika Srpska (RS) entity level after leaving the RS opposition bloc but they have some conditions they are ready to talk about.

“The NDP has been the most loyal partner of the Alliance for Changes since 2010. During all this time, we expected the voters to recognise our policy,” Dragan Cavic said. “The voters thought differently. Then I asked my self, was our policy right and whether our confrontation yielded any results.”

Speakong to N1, he said the party had already made a decision whether they would be part of the future RS government, but talks with the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), are expected to start next week.

Bosnia and Herzegovina held a general election in early October. Back then the ruling party, the SNSD won the most votes, maintaining its grip on power in this Serb dominates, semi-autonomous entity.

Their biggest opposition, the Alliance for Changes/Victory Alliance made a poor result which prompted the NDP to leave the bloc and start negotiations with the SNSD on entering the new RS government.

“This decision has nothing to do with the election. I realised that the state of constant conflict wouldn’t bring us any good. Our consultants told us we must end the negative rhetoric, and truth be told, I’m sick of being in constant conflict with someone,” Cavic noted.

Aware that many people were disappointed by this decision, he added that 19 out of 20 NDP Main Board members decided to take this step. He sees nothing wrong in changing partners after so many years.
