Bosnian outgoing Croat Presidency member Dragan Covic told the UK Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina that legitimate representation of constituent peoples at all levels of government is of great importance for Bosnia's democracy.

Speaking about the current situation in the country and results of the October general election, Covic told Matthew Field that “preserving the principles of legitimate representation of constituent peoples on all levels of government is of extreme importance for Bosnia’s constitutionality, democracy and the rule of law.”

The two touched upon the issue of Mostar, a city where local elections were not held since 2008 because the Constitutional Court found that some articles of the State Election Law concerning the election in this City were violating the State Constitution. Ever since the political leaders were unable to agree on the solution.

Covic said the solution for this southern Bosnian city would be one of the priorities of his future political engagement.

They also talked about Bosnia’s NATO integration process and Covic expressed the need for additional intensification of activities so that the Membership Action Plan for Bosnia would be activated as soon as possible.
