Following Serbia’s example, the ruling Bosnian Serb party will push for the introduction of the life sentence, said on Wednesday lawmaker in the Serb-majority part of the country, Igor Zunic.

Zunic said that lawmakers from his party in the parliament of the semi-autonomus entity of Republika Srpska (RS), the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), were following all the developments in Serbia regarding the law which would have rapists and killers of children, pregnant women and people incapable of defending themselves serve life sentences.

“We are expecting that our initiatives will be adopted during the preparation of changes of the criminal code and that rapists and killers of children, pregnant women and people incapable of defending themselves never have the chance to commit that act again,” Zunic said.

The Serbian parliament only a day earlier adopted amendments to the criminal code introducing life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for those convicted of the same crimes.
