The assassination of Kosovo Serb political leader Oliver Ivanovic remains unsolved 18 months after it happened, with mutual accusations between Belgrade and Pristina and their separate probes into the killing, N1 has reported.
Ivanovic was shot dead in front of his office in the divided northern Kosovo town of Mitrovica, populated mostly by local Serbs, on January 16, this year by a still unidentified gunman shooting from a moving car.
“On this 16th in the month we remind the investigative institutions in Pristina and Belgrade to understand that Oliver Ivanovic’s murderer must be found and processed,” a statement from Ivanovic’s party GI SDP said.
It added that “we demand from the international representatives to, in line with their mandates in Kosovo, put pressure on the institutions to establish the rule of law and secure safety to all our citizens.”
The statement recalled that last month was burdened with political exchanges between the authorities in Belgrade and Pristina.
Kosovo says it has issued an international warrant for some suspects, while Belgrade keeps silent after the National Security Council’s meeting.
Vucic accused Pristina of conducting a political investigation in Ivanovic’s murder to blame Belgrade, while Serbia, he said, was carrying out a serious and professional probe.
Pristina, however, says that all the evidence it has gathered point at political assassination, committed by “political foes, those who have had problems among themselves.”
