British-born Hollywood star Tim Roth arrived in Bosnia on Tuesday to receive the Sarajevo Film Festival’s Honorary Heart of Sarajevo, an award given to people whose contribution to the film industry is judged as exceptional.
Roth handed out autographs as he walked the traditional Bosnian carpet, which this year replaced the usual red carpet, in front of the National Theatre. He was met with frenetic applause and took pictures with fans.
Roth said the Sarajevo Film Festival is “insane” and that he loves it.
He explained that Mexican film director Michel Franco, who he worked with previously, told him about the Sarajevo Film Festival and that they are planning to work on a new film together in January.
He also spoke about his cooperation with film director Quentin Tarantino.
“I love him,” Roth said, praising Tarantino’s work as director and screenwriter.
Along with French actress Isabelle Huppert, Mexican film director Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu and Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski, Roth is one of the recipients of the 2019 Honorary Heart of Sarajevo.
Previous recipients include Steve Buscemi, Angelina Jolie, Benicio del Toro, Robert de Niro, John Cleese, Oliver Stone and many other world-known actors and film directors.
Timothy Simon Roth is internationally renowned for playing a number of roles, most of all for his performance in Quentin Tarantino’s films such as ‘Pulp Fiction’, Reservoir Dogs, Four Rooms and the Hateful Eight.
He won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for performance in the film Rob Roy in 1995.
The first film he directed, ‘The War Zone’ (1999), was well-received.
Roth also spoke at the ‘Masterclass’ event at Sarajevo’s ‘Meeting Point’ cinema on Tuesday.
