Another BiH citizen indicted for terrorism

The 38-year-old went to Syria via Turkey in 2013 and there joined the Al-Nusra Front, which the UN declared a terrorist organisation in 2012, the Prosecutor's Office said.

Catic underwent military training in the organisation's ranks, was a sniper and took part in combat against the legal army in Syria. He was there until 2021, after which he stayed in the Middle East and Turkey, where he was arrested on 17 November last year and extradited to BiH.

Twenty-eight persons in BiH have been sentenced for joining Islamist terrorist organisations. It is estimated that between 250 and 300 BiH citizens went to Iraq and Syria between 2012 and 2016.
