Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs in the U.S. State Department, James O’Brien, rejected claims that the country's ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina is acting according to his personal agenda. O’Brien stressed that Ambassador Michael Murphy “has the full confidence” of the U.S. Government.
“In recent weeks we’ve seen frequent assertions the U.S. Ambassador in Sarajevo may be acting on a personal agenda. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Ambassador Murphy, like all American Ambassadors, is the personal representative of the President of the United States”, O’Brien posted on X.
He added that Murphy “has the full confidence of the United States Government in carrying out his mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina to help advance Bosnia and Herzegovina’s integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions; defend Bosnia and Herzegovina’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and multiethnic character; and counter anti-Dayton activities and combat corruption”.
The U.S. Embassy has frequently criticised the authorities in BiH’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, especially RS President Milorad Dodik.
Earlier on Friday. the U.S. Embassy accused Dodik of “manipulating state funds” regarding the purchase of a new headquarters for the Indirect Taxation Authority.
