Becirovic expressed his gratitude to Wagner for her steadfast and enduring commitment to the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also commended her active role in fortifying the bilateral partnership between the two nations, noting that robust US leadership under President Donald Trump’s administration remains vital for safeguarding the security and political stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the meeting, Becirovic asserted that Bosnia and Herzegovina stands as a successful project and ranks among the oldest states in Southeast Europe. He dismissed assertions by certain lobbyists that the nation is a "failed state," describing such claims as both misplaced and baseless.
He argued that such propaganda ignores historical context and the reality of the progress achieved with the backing of the United States and the West. He pointed to significant milestones, including the restoration of infrastructure, the implementation of a single currency, and the unification of customs, judicial, and military systems. He further highlighted that Bosnia is now a formal candidate for both EU and NATO membership.
Turning to economic matters, Becirovic emphasised that the country offers substantial opportunities for American investors, particularly within the energy and infrastructure sectors. He specifically noted the Southern Gas Interconnection as a critical project for ensuring energy security, diversifying supply, and deepening the strategic alliance with the United States.
The discussion also touched upon the importance of the Bosnian diaspora in the US, notably in Missouri. Becirovic described the community as a vital link between the two countries with the potential to further enhance political, economic, and social relations. He extended particular thanks to Congresswoman Wagner for her tangible support of the diaspora.
Congresswoman Wagner reaffirmed her firm support for an independent, sovereign, and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina, underlining the necessity of maintaining reform momentum and broadening cooperation between the two states.
