The proposer of the bill was delegate Dzemal Smajic, and the amendment relates to raising the age limit for soldiers, enabling experienced personnel to remain in service longer.

Reporting on behalf of the Joint Committee on Defense and Security, delegate Marina Pendes said the law enjoyed broad support.

“I believe this law is very important and that there is consensus. Only after its adoption will the Ministry of Defense be able to function at full capacity,” Pendes said.

Proposer Smajic stressed that the amendments would contribute to the stability and functionality of the Armed Forces.

“Raising the age limit makes it possible to retain soldiers with longer work experience, which ensures continuity, reduces training costs and increases efficiency. No additional financial resources are required for these amendments,” he said.

Speaker of the House of Peoples, Kemal Ademovic, recalled that the law had been supplemented with an amendment increasing the age limit to 49 years and the maximum length of service to 30 years.

“I will support this and all laws that improve the status of employees in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the armed forces, police and civil servants,” Ademovic said.
