Bosnia, Frontex officials discuss cooperation and joint operations

Ivica Bosnjak, Deputy Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, held an official meeting in Sarajevo on Tuesday with Lars Gerdes, Frontex Deputy Executive Director, who is currently visiting the country. Representatives from the country’s Border Police, the Service for Foreigners Affairs, and Frontex also took part in the discussions.

According to the Security Ministry the talks centred on bilateral cooperation to date, the outcomes of joint operations carried out under the Status Agreement between Bosnia and the European Union, and upcoming initiatives to bolster operational collaboration in border management.
Particular emphasis was placed on joint operations conducted by Frontex and the national Border Police, information sharing, capacity building within relevant institutions, tackling cross-border crime and people smuggling, and managing the challenges associated with irregular migration.
Deputy Minister Bosnjak expressed gratitude to Frontex for its ongoing assistance in strengthening local border management capabilities, underlining that partnership with the Agency remains vital for the security of both Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region.
