A reception was held today at the Hall of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina to commemorate December 1st, the Day of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In attendance were the heads of all organisational units within the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as generals of the Armed Forces. The Minister of Defence, Zukan Helez, and the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces, General Colonel Gojko Knezevic, presented awards to Armed Forces personnel and Ministry officials in recognition of their achievements over the past year.
During his address, Minister Helez highlighted the significant journey undertaken by the Armed Forces to evolve into a cornerstone of the country’s sovereignty, as well as a symbol of stability and security for all citizens and communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also emphasised their role as a trusted NATO partner.
“I am delighted to welcome you to this reception and the presentation of awards to members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of December 1st, our Armed Forces Day. Defence reform in our country stands as the most successful post-war reform and serves as an exemplary model for the reorganisation and functioning of other institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Minister Helez stated.
He further commended the professionalism and dedication of the Armed Forces, citing the numerous commendations and accolades received for their participation in international missions and peacekeeping operations worldwide.
“The monetary rewards and accolades I have presented to deserving members of the Armed Forces are more than mere tokens of appreciation. They represent our collective pride in how our Armed Forces have exemplified the best of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the global stage. The human resources of our Armed Forces are their greatest asset. I am confident we are on the right path and that each year will see further progress and strengthening of our Armed Forces,” he added.
Minister Helez also reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the enhanced status and position of the Armed Forces within society, as well as improving their working and living conditions.
General Knezevic, Chief of the Joint Staff, also addressed the gathering, reflecting on the year’s accomplishments. He highlighted progress in military recruitment, training, and engagement during 2024, as well as the Armed Forces’ vital role in assisting civilian populations during emergencies.
He expressed particular pride in the efforts of Armed Forces personnel who responded to disasters such as wildfires and devastating floods, providing crucial assistance to affected communities.
The Press Service of the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina reported that the Day of the Armed Forces serves as a moment to reflect on these achievements and reaffirm the Armed Forces’ commitment to the nation.
