Bosnian Border Police prevents smuggling of more than 30 migrants in one day

Bosnian Border Police's Special Unit prevented on Tuesday the smuggling of 26 persons of Afro-Asian origin at the northern Brod international border crossing with Croatia.

According to a press release, smuggling was discovered on the second line of the border control during a check of a DAF motor vehicle and a Wielton trailer, registered in Poland, driven by a citizen of Belarus, D.T.

Due to the suspicion that the criminal offense of people smuggling from the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina was committed in this case, the prosecutor on duty at the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina was informed about the incident. The suspect was apprehended and will be reported to the competent prosecutor's office.

The cargo vehicle and other evidence were temporarily confiscated and the smuggled migrants were handed over to members of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs for further processing.

On the same day, members of the Doljani Border Police Special Unit in the country's south prevented the smuggling of six citizens of Afro-Asian origin in Crveni Grm, Ljubuski municipality.

The smuggling was discovered during a regular stop of a VW Touran passenger vehicle with Bosnia and Herzegovina license plates, which was driven by Bosnian national B.M. Another suspect was found in another vehicle and they were both apprehended and reported to the competent prosecutor.

The smuggled migrants will be handed over to the the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs for further processing.
