Bosnian Court sentences man to four years for joining ISIS

A Bosnian citizen named Senad Kasupovic was sentenced to four years in prison for organizing and joining a terrorist group in Syria, Balkan Investigative and Reporting Network (BIRN) reported Thursday.

Kasupovic was sentenced to three years in prison in January this year by the first-instance Court for organizing and joining a terrorist group, and the State Court increased the sentence to four years by the second-instance verdict, the State Prosecutor's Office confirmed.

As stated in the first-instance verdict, he was convicted of leaving Bosnia on July 12, 2013, travelling to Turkey, after which he crossed the border illegally and came to the territory of Syria where he joined the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). He spent six years in Syria, until December 19, 2019, when he was deported to BiH.

Kasupovic is one of the seven who were deported from Syria at the end of 2019, and his trial began on May 20, 2020.
Apart from him, the Court of BiH sentenced Muharem Dunic and Armen Dzelko to three and a half years each under a plea agreement, and Emir Alisic to two and a half years. Under a plea agreement, Hamza Labidi was sentenced to one year and Emir Alisic to two and a half years in prison.

All the said verdicts were final with no possibility of appeal.
