Bosnian government unanimously adopted on Thursday the initiative to conclude an agreement on a 50 million dollar loan with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development aimed for the project to improve the air quality in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The goal of the project is to reduce emission of air pollutants and greenhouse gases in the heating sectors of residential buildings and traffic by improving air quality management and investments in four cantons within Bosnia's Federation entity, including the Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zenica-Doboj and Herzegovina-Neretva cantons, based on the expressed will to participate in this project, the Council of Ministers stated following the session.

The project, among other things, refers to strengthening of the air quality monitoring and management and supporting the improvement of heating and energy efficiency in individual houses in a sustainable way in all four cantons.

One of the components of this project, which refers to green urban mobility to support the transition of the transport sector towards low emissions, will be implemented in Sarajevo Canton, as the largest urban area in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In consultation with the authorities of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, Bosnia's two semi-autonomous regions, this project will first focus on the Federation, the Council of Ministers concluded.
