Bosnian police arrest suspect for planning terrorist attack under ISIL guidance

Police arrested Bosnian national Mirza Kapic, with the place of residence in the central town of Zenica, under the suspicion of keeping contact with radical ISIL structures and allegedly planning a terrorist attack on a religious facility in Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to the State Prosecutor's Office.

After questioning the suspect, competent prosecutor of the Department for Terrorism asked the State Court to issue detention warrant for the suspect.

“Mirza Kapic, born in 1980 in Banja Luka, living in Zenica, the national of BiH, was previously convicted for the criminal act linked to terrorism and stay at foreign warzones. The activities of the arrest of the suspect as well as the raid of the facilities he is using were implemented in a coordinated operation by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and SIPA at the order of the Court of BiH,” said the Prosecutor's Office.

According to the press release, the suspect is charged with “making a contact through electronic means of communication, mobile phones and computer, with people who support radical movements and support structures of the so-called. ISIL,” and that in this correspondence he “expressed a desire to carry out an explosive attack on a mosque in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of July of this year.”

He also asked the person(s) he communicated with “for the guidelines for the production of an explosive device with a detonator via a mobile phone, expressing his intention to attacks scholars of the Islamic community who publish proclamations against the Mujahedeen and who report supporters of radical movements and ISIL to law enforcement agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

The Prosecutor's Office also said that the suspect was prevented from further action by members of the SIPA and the Prosecutor's Office.

Detention measures were requested due to the risk of the suspect obstructing the investigation, concealing the evidence and influencing the witnesses or accomplices as well as committing the offence or completing the actions he started.
