The former head of the Crisis Staff of the Serb Autonomous Region (SAO) Krajina and convicted war criminal Radoslav Brdjanin, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Hague Tribunal, was released for health reasons and arrived in Banja Luka on Saturday. According to Republika Srpska entity public broadcaster RTRS, he is in a bad state of health and has been admitted to the University Clinical Center (UKC) of the RS.
“Brdjanin is in a serious health condition and has been placed in the intensive care unit. Part of the diagnostics has been done and a plan for further treatment has been made,” said the general manager of UKC RS Vlado Djajic.
Brdjanin, the former political leader of the SAO Krajina, which was under Serb control, was found guilty by the ICTY in 2007 of crimes involving persecution, torture, deportation and forced relocation of the non-Serb population in Bosnia, especially in the SAO during 1992. In 1999, he was arrested in BiH. Since 2008, Brđanin has been serving his prison sentence in Denmark. The International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia sentenced him to 30 years in prison.
