The president of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, responded to a statement from the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, saying that the UN official "is not competent to interpret the Dayton Agreement" and that he "confirmed” that the High Representative of the international community in BiH, Christian Schmidt, was not appointed accordingly.
Dodik’s statement comes after Guterres said in his response to Bosnian Serb Presidency member Zeljka Cvijanovic, who asked for documentation on the appointment of Schmidt.
Guterres replied that the UN is not a signatory of the Dayton Agreement nor it is a member of the Peace Implementation Council, which is the only relevant body for the appointment of the High Representative.
Dodik stated that “it can be seen that a campaign is being waged against Republika Srpska” and accused Guterres of “creating even greater confusion in BiH”.
“Then why do they discuss BiH in the United Nations twice a year, if they are not the relevant body? If what Guterres says is true, then we will seek compensation. We will talk to the member states of the UN, because it turns out that the UN is not responsible for high representatives. We know what Paddy Ashdown was doing here. Then all of it was illegal and we can ask for compensation,” said Dodik.
