Edin Dzeko announces retirement from Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team after historic career
Legendary striker Edin Dzeko has announced that his upcoming match against Sweden on October 2nd will mark his final appearance for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team, concluding an international journey that spans nearly two decades. In a deeply personal statement released on his social media fanpage, the veteran forward reflected on the profound honor of representing his country across 151 appearances since his debut against Turkey.
Describing international duty as his ultimate childhood dream, Dzeko stated, "Nothing in my career has ever compared to the pride I have felt every single time I wore that shirt. Nothing." He emphasized that reaching the age of 40 while still playing for the national team is a testament to the fact that he "truly gave everything I had. Every time. Everything."
Among the defining highlights of his career, Dzeko pointed to leading the squad to their historic first World Cup qualification in 2014 as one of the happiest moments of his life as a footballer. He noted that the emotions felt after scoring against Wales and playing against Italy in Zenica, alongside witnessing his people celebrating in the streets, will stay in his heart forever.
