Bosnia’s north-eastern town of Prijedor is holding an election for mayor, after the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats’ (SNSD) Dalibor Pavlovic resigned the post following an incident regarding inappropriate photographs.
All polling stations have opened on time and the process began as planned, Zeljko Skondric, the head of the local election commission said Sunday.
A total of 86,329 voters have the right to vote, including 608 voters registered to vote in absence who exercise the right to vote in person at a polling station in Prijedor and 2,851 voters registered to vote by mail.
The BiH Central Election Commission accredited 148 observers of citizens’ associations and two OHR observers to observe the elections, while the City Election Commission Prijedor accredited 732 observers from political entities.
Fourteen political entities applied to take part in the extraordinary elections in Prijedor, including eight political parties, five independent candidates and one coalition.
