The European Commission has proposed allocating a total of €280 million from the EU Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to support Austria, Czechia, Poland, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Moldova in recovering from the severe floods that struck these countries in September and October 2024.

The financial aid comes in response to the aftermath of Storm Boris, which brought record-breaking rainfall and widespread flooding, causing significant destruction to infrastructure and affecting thousands of residents across the region.

As the EU’s primary post-disaster relief mechanism, the Solidarity Fund will support various recovery efforts, including the repair of damaged infrastructure, protection of affected populations, reinforcement of preventive infrastructure, cleanup operations, and the preservation of cultural heritage sites.

“This funding is a concrete expression of European solidarity and will contribute to the faster and more effective recovery of the affected communities,” the Commission stated.

The proposal will now be submitted to the European Parliament and the Council for final approval, after which the funds will be made available to the recipient countries.
