President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, shared a photograph on social media showing false voting results regarding the Srebrenica Genocide Resolution displayed on LED panels throughout Banja Luka and Republika Srpska.
Over 100 LED panels displaying the results “109:84” were installed across Republika Srpska.
“This is what Republika Srpska looks like today, one message – Proud Srpska and Serbia,” Dodik stated.
This campaign, which inaccurately portrayed abstaining countries as opponents of the resolution, was initiated by politicians from Republika Srpska and Serbia shortly after the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution.
To clarify, only 19 member states voted against the resolution, while 84 voted in favor, and 68 abstained.
Before the resolution was adopted, Milorad Dodik and Aleksandar Vucic, along with their political allies, employed various propaganda strategies. Dodik threatened secession, claiming that the Serbian people and Serbia were being unfairly targeted as genocidal. Vucic, meanwhile, wrapped himself in the Serbian flag and went to New York to lobby. They claimed that the world would never be the same if the resolution passed. Surprisingly, both Vucic and Dodik celebrated the adoption of the resolution as a victory.
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s ambassador to the United Nations, Zlatko Lagumdzija, remarked that the resolution was adopted by a “basketball score.” The campaign in Republika Srpska is likely a response to this statement.
