Hamdija Fejzic, who was removed from the position of Deputy Mayor of Srebrenica last November, announced today that he will run for Mayor of the municipality in the upcoming elections.
“Given that we're in a difficult political situation, as a responsible person who has dedicated most of his life to political engagement in Srebrenica, I am aware that Srebrenica represents the most important political and moral issue for us Bosniaks,” said Fejzic.
“Due to minor personal and narrow party interests, we in Srebrenica couldn't agree on a common candidate for the position of Mayor in the upcoming local elections. Understanding the gravity of the moment and the situation we're in, as a politically responsible and experienced person, and after consultations with many Srebrenica residents and representatives of various associations and organizations, I hereby inform the public and the citizens of Srebrenica that I have decided to run as an independent candidate for the position of Mayor of Srebrenica,” he added in a statement.
He notes that this is not the time for political irresponsibility and inexperience.
“Let me once again warn all political actors to reconsider, as we're facing a challenging political battle. This is not the time for political irresponsibility and inexperience. I want to thank everyone—political parties, associations/organizations, and individuals—for their support thus far,” he stated and concluded:
“I call on political leaders not to play politics with Srebrenica, politically or morally, and I urge them to support my candidacy as an independent candidate for the position of Mayor of Srebrenica.”
