Germany considers the latest statements of the president of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, regarding the High Representative representative of the international community in the country, Christian Schmidt, completely unacceptable and stressed that an order to arrest Schmidt if the official enters the RS would be illegal and would constitute a violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
“The Dayton Agreement has significantly contributed to preserving peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina for almost three decades. Preserving this peace order is the central task of the High Representative. At the same time, he has the full support of the German Federal Government. The special envoy of the Federal Government of Germany for the countries of the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, has just been in Bosnia and Herzegovina and once again conveyed our position very clearly to Dodik in their conversation”, the German Government said in its statement.
It also stressed that the continuation of the secessionist policy of the President of Republika Srpska harms the people of the country the most. Furthermore, it added that such actions also produce consequences, noting that Germany decided to discontinue four large infrastructure projects in the RS a few weeks ago, while the European Commission also cancelled incentives.
