In a message addressed to Sarajevo Archbishop, Tomo Vuksic, the Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, Francis Assisi Chullikatt, and Catholics around the world, Grand Mufti Kavazovic expressed his belief that the election of Pope Leo XIV will continue the tradition of good relations and cooperation between Muslims and the Catholic Church, a path notably strengthened by the late Pope Francis.
Kavazovic emphasised that, in the current challenging times, it is essential to have courageous religious leaders who understand the importance of peace and the promotion of dialogue - leaders who will build bridges and foster trust.
"Humanity faces many challenges that can only be resolved through joint efforts. We are confident that the friendly relations between the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Catholic Church will continue to be nurtured and developed in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding, as has long been the case in our shared homeland," the message reads.
